"Just recently had the best teeth cleaning ever at the Mint Denton office! Jessica, the dental hygienist, was so gentle and thorough! Embarrassed to say it’s been awhile since I’ve had my teeth cleaned so they were pretty bad. But Jessica was really sensitive and talked me thru everything she did. My teeth look and feel amazing now. The Denton office itself is very nice and clean. The entire staff was extremely friendly and professional! The dentist Dr. Bell also made me feel very comfortable as she listened to my concerns about my teeth and answered all of my questions. Overall it was a great experience and I would highly recommend the Mint dentistry Denton office! Already made my next appointment!"- D.L. / Google / Jan 07, 2023
A weakened jaw can be the result of certain oral conditions, like gum disease, or following a physical trauma to your face. Atrophy can also weaken the jawbone if a tooth is missing for a length of time without replacement by a restoration like dentures, a bridge, or an implant. Bone grafting surgery gives your jaw the necessary strength to prepare you for dentures or a dental implant, but it's important to understand that the process will take time. Some procedures can take months to complete, but you will have a stronger jaw that will support your dental implant or dentures for better oral health. To determine whether you need bone grafting surgery, we will obtain digital x-rays and perform a comprehensive examination during your initial consultation.
What to Expect
When you arrive for your procedure, we will ensure your total comfort by helping you settle in and then administering the sedation method discussed during your consultation. After the graft is prepared for placement, the oral surgeon will attach it to your jawbone through incisions made in your gums. Proteins and collagens are added to the graft to speed integration. Once the process is complete, the surgeon will close the incisions in your gums and clean your mouth to reduce the risk of an infection or other complications.
While your mouth heals over the next several months, your jawbone will integrate with the new graft(s). During this time, it's important to maintain a good home oral care routine with daily flossing and brushing along with any products your MINT dentistry team recommends (for example, antibiotics or special mouthwashes). You need to attend follow-up appointments at MINT dentistry so we can monitor your recovery and determine when you can move to the next step in your treatment plan. To keep your mouth healthy after grafting, we recommend scheduling professional cleanings twice a year.
